Easter Egg Sensory Fun
Spring time is full of all sorts of fun themes in the school and home setting. One of my favorite activities to do when I was in the classroom was to dye Easter Eggs. While I didn’t teach any of the religious aspects of the holiday in the public school setting, I did teach some of the fun traditions such as dying easter eggs, easter egg hunts and visiting the easter bunny. For some social stories to help students prepare for these traditions, click HERE. Today’s blog post is all about some Easter egg sensory fun.
Why Incorporate Easter Egg Sensory Fun into the Classroom?
I have several blog posts addressing the benefits of sensory play in the classroom. To read more about sensory needs in the classroom, click HERE. I also have information on sensory play HEREas well as sensory diets HERE. I also have some free sensory materials in my Free Resource Library.
Today, I am sharing five easter egg sensory fun activities!
- Easter Egg Play Doh Tray
- Marple/Ball Paint: Easter egg craft
- Dying Easter Eggs in rice
- Sensory Rice Easter Eggs
- Marbled Easter Egg Dye
Easter Egg Play Doh Tray
Play doh is a go to sensory tool for the classroom. It’s not TOO messy, kids love it and it has so many possibilities. You can make a batch of different colors and they can last you all year long. I make play doh following this simple recipe from Living Well Mom. It turns out perfect EVERY time!
For Easter, I decided to use some spring colors and provide a variety of materials in the play doh tray that could be used to decorate the “Easter eggs.”
Sensory Ball Paint: Easter egg craft
Ball and marble paint activities is a FUN fun Friday craft. We did marble/sensory ball painting when I was in the classroom all the time. It’s messy and so fun for those sensory seeking kids.
For this simple sensory craft, all you need is some paint, paper and sensory balls (or any ball).
Dying Easter Eggs in rice
Dying Easter eggs is such a fun holiday tradition. It can also be messy in the classroom. Cups full of dyed water can be a big NO NO for some. I actually did this method of dying Easter eggs with Tucker last year and it totally works. I never tried it when I was in the classroom, and I wish I had.
To dye Easter eggs in rice all you need is some rice, ziplock bag and food coloring. Simply add some rice into a bag, add the dye and shake it up. Soak the rice and then add the egg. Students can shake the egg in the bag for a textured color dyed experience. This is a mess free and safe for the classroom way of dying Easter eggs!
Sensory Rice Easter Eggs
Water play is always a fun sensory activity. For Easter in the classroom I always used plastic Easter eggs in a variety of ways. Grab a tub of rainbow rice and add some plastic Easter eggs. Students can scoop them up, mix and match the halves and fill them up with rice!
Marbled Easter Egg Dye
Another fun way to dye Easter eggs is with shaving cream. Shaving cream was a staple in my classroom. Shaving cream fun was always a big reward for my kiddos. So why not incorporate shaving cream when dying eggs? I got this idea from Hands on As We Grow. For a more detailed tutorial click HERE to see step by step. I highly recommend this activity for your home or classroom!
