How to Plant a Flower Flow Map
Thinking Maps are a huge push in our district right now. I am incorporating Thinking Maps as much as possible for my kiddo’s. I created a large laminated reusable poster for the three most common thinking maps. Today we used the Flow Map to sequence “How to Plant a Flower.”
We practiced this for the past two weeks, reviewing vocabulary and steps to planting a flower. Today, students had the opportunity to complete their own Flow Map. They colored, cut and glued the pieces in the correct order.
We work on talking in complete sentences using sentence frames. To go along with our Flow Map we also had a pocket chart of full sentences! During ELD I model how to complete the thinking map for the students before we do it as a class. I like to incorporate AAC in every lesson possible, so I make a simple communication board that fits in my communicator device! After the student’s come to the front and select the correct PEC, they are prompted to read the complete sentence to the class. I use the communication device as an incentive to use once they read the sentence to the class. (I help them read each word!)
