Fall Sensory Fun
I love all things sensory! I have a bunch of fun sensory activities to share with you that can be done in your classroom or at home during the Fall season. A lot of themes are perfect for November activities and holidays in your classroom! Today I am sharing:
Fall Sensory Fun Activities
- Corn on the Cob Painting
- Fall Sensory Table
- Corn Kernel Craft
- Fall Play Doh
- Corn Squish Bag
- Fall Music Shakers
Corn on the Cob Painting
Sensory painting activities are perfect for some fall sensory fun in the classroom. I also love anything that incorporates seasonal/monthly vocabulary! Simply get some corn on the cob, corn on the cob holders (totally not necessary), some paint and of course paper!
There is no right or wrong way to complete this activity. You can have students roll paint on a cut out piece of paper, white paper or coloring page. I chose to have Tucker paint simple white paper and write his name once the paint was dry. In year’s past, when in the classroom, I had students do this same painting activity on a printed piece of corn and once dry, cut it out!
Fall Sensory Table
Fall sensory tables and bins are perfect for the classroom. I loved using sensory bins in the classroom because they were easy to store and the lid helped keep everything safe! Now that I am home with Tucker, I love setting up monthly themed sensory tables using our Ikea sensory table!
For November I created a sensory bin filled with corn, dyed rice, leaves and tractors!
Corn Kernel Craft
Fine motors and simple crafts were a go to for fun Friday activities in the classroom. Below is a sample of a super simple craft that can take place in your short work center rotations. Simply print an image of corn (or any fall item such as leaves etc.) and have students glue corn kernels on. This helps students generalize fall vocabulary, build fine motor skills and follow directions.
Fall Play Doh Fun
Play doh is a great tool to use in the classroom. I never made homemade play doh when I was in the classroom, well, because I was lazy. I usually resorted to store bought play doh for my students. This month I tried some simple home made play doh with Tucker. I followed the recipe from Living Well Mom. It turned out FABULOUS! I followed her recipe and added some Pumpkin Pie spice to make it scented!
I added some different fall varieties and introduced some play doh fun. This is a great activity for the classroom because there are oh so many skills you can learn. Simply work on conversational skills, colors, shapes, vocabulary, following directions and fine/gross motors! I found these cute fall cookie cutters at Michaels that added a seasonal flare to the activity!
Corn Squish Bag
I am a fan of sensory bags because they are SO MUCH cleaner than slimes and goos. Everything is contained yet the fun is still here. Below is a simple November sensory bag. Just squirt some hair gel, food coloring and add some corn kernels. BAM, you have a sensory bag. If you want to be fancy, draw a picture on the bag using a sharpie before you fill it!
{trick- print out a design from google, stick it inside the bag, and trace it!}
Corn Music Shaker
Do you do music in the classroom? What about brain breaks? Movement breaks? Whatever it you call it, music shakers are always a hit. Pictured below is a super simple corn shaker you can use all Fall in your classroom for some fall sensory fun. Simply add some corn kernels to a recycled water bottle, seal shut and add some ribbon to make it fancy!
I hope you can use some of these ideas in your classroom for some Fall sensory fun this year! For other November ideas visit my November category on my blog! For other seasonal activities, consider November Binder Tasks, November Directed Drawing, or November Vocabulary Activities. Pair these sensory activities with our two November holidays: Veteran’s Day and Thanksgiving!
